Transportation

 

Car rental companies provide both self-driven cars and cars with driver services. Please contact the organizers for the official car rental dealerships.

 
Credit Cards

 

Erbil has limited access to ATMs or credit card machines*.

  *Only the Erbil International Hotel (Sheraton), Erbil Rotana, Family Mall, Majidi Mall have ATMs that allow you to withdraw Iraqi Dinars using international credit cards

 
Currency

 

Foreign currency can be exchanged at any bank. The monetary unit in Iraq is the Iraqi Dinar (IQD), and the exchange rate is around US$ 1 = around 1170 IQD (daily rates fluctuate)

The Iraq Time Zone is GMT + 3 hrs

Passports & Visa Requirements

 

Pre-approved entry permits to Kurdistan are required for all nationalities except for travelers holding a passport from EU, US, Canada, Japan or Australia.

Upon arrival in Kurdistan, Kurdish authorities will stamp EU, US, Canadian, Japanese and Australian passports with a 10-day entry permit.  

For other passport holders, IFP Iraq will process visas to Kurdistan free of charge.

 
Important: Please note the following points

 

Entry permits to Kurdistan are issued by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG Ministry of Interior), not by the Iraqi Central Government. Therefore the point of entry into this particular area of Iraq must be via the Province of Kurdistan.
